FRACTION CALCULATOR

This Fraction Calculator is built for real-world math where fractions and mixed numbers come up constantly—construction, carpentry, layout, recipes, or schoolwork. Instead of forcing everything into decimals, it lets you work directly with mixed numbers (whole number + numerator/denominator) and chain together multiple terms with + − × ÷. The calculator simplifies as it goes, then shows the final answer three ways: as an improper fraction, a mixed number, and a decimal.

Unlike a basic calculator, this one is made for fraction-heavy work: adding and subtracting different denominators, multiplying or dividing mixed numbers, and handling negatives cleanly. All intermediate results are simplified to keep the numerators and denominators from getting huge and unreadable. That makes it especially handy for tradespeople working in inches and fractions, students learning fraction operations, or anyone who’d rather not do the common-denominator dance by hand.

How To Use It

Each row represents a term in your calculation. For each term:

  1. Enter the Whole number (or leave it 0 if it’s just a simple fraction).

  2. Enter the Numerator and Denominator of the fraction part.

  3. For the first row, there is no operator (it’s your starting value).

  4. For each additional row, pick an operator (+, −, ×, or ÷) from the dropdown to apply to that term.

You can click “+ Add Term” to build a longer expression (for example, 1 1/2 + 3/4 − 2 2/3 ÷ 1/4). When you’re ready, press “Calculate” and the Result panel will show:

  • Improper Fraction – everything combined into a single fraction n/d

  • Mixed Number – whole number plus a proper fraction

  • Decimal – useful if you need a quick approximate value

Use “Reset” to start fresh with a simple preset example. Denominators of zero and division by zero are caught and flagged, so if something is invalid you’ll get a clear alert instead of a nonsense result. This makes the tool a solid helper for both learning fractions and using them confidently on the job.
